Unhinged Quilting Techniques

…that actually work!

EYEBALLS!

The secret is use FELT and an AccuQuilt® if you have one! Punch those jokers out- perfect circle, voila. Hand stitch ‘em on with a few quick stitches. Or, use your machine & whatever color thread is currently on it. Any color will do. Sew the eyeball on, then grab a black permanent fabric marker and paint the thread black.

No one will ever know. Felt won’t fray!

Or… you could just draw the eye on with that marker.

Good Enough.

Chuck’s Two Cents

“Instruction manuals and patterns are just suggestions.”

Got a wonky spot? Excellent. That’s called a design feature. Ignore it. (or stick an appliqué or a patch on it and call it a day. Looks cool and no one will ever know). You’re welcome.

Making display quilts just to swap out on your wall every season? Make two quilt tops before you sandwich anything, and make them the same size. Give them each a wide border to give yourself some space. Then, use one for the front, one for the back, add some batting in between, quilt the thing in a thread that works for both, and voila. You can just flip over Thanksgiving to Christmas, save a lot of space in your cabinets AND save yourself from buying two quilts worth of expensive backing material. I’ll be hosting financial planning conferences all week.
