Meet the real front yard friends! Photos first, scroll down for video. Newest added at the top.
Oct 11, 2026 Chuck is REBUILDING, Y’ALL! Poor guy built a home in our tree and the trimmers cut it down. He came back and was SO CONFUSED, like “where is my home???” But he’s at it again, so happy he’s back!
NEWS LIVE FROM THE BIRD FEEDER
Chuck is a red bellied woodpecker who lives in my tree. He was one of the very first Front Yard Friends and I have enjoyed watching him scream CHUCK! CHUCK! CHUCK! as he flies about, walks up my tree and drills holes.
The tree trimmer CUT DOWN HIS HOME, so I put it under the tree so it’s not entirely gone forever. He came back looking for it, and looks so confused. See photos below for Chuck the Woodpecker looking for his tree.
Chuck updates will appear on this page! You can see him happily rebuilding.
Chuck! Chuck! Chuck! He loudly yells his name!
Chuck dangling from his suet feeder.
The tree trimmers came. He is trying to figure out WHERE HIS HOUSE WENT. :(
Chuck wondering WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED after the tree guy trimmed our tree :( Poor Chuck!
he's climbing up but so confused
WHERE IS MY HOUSE???
I'm sorry, Chuck! I didn't know they'd cut down your home. :(
LOOK AT THAT EXPERTLY DRILLED HOLE!
Meet Leopold, the Opossum. He comes by multiple times a night to eat bugs and drink water from the Brownie Pan.
My Front Yard Friends area
FYF area 2. The ducks would come right up there by the porch! Bunnies come daily still and tons of birds. Leopold the Opossum forages here at night.
Beyonce the Duck, who flies in for a quick bite here and there. I named her Beyonce, bc I thought she was a "single lady".... Well. She's not. She lands loudly, scarfs some food and takes off within 60 seconds to CATCH UP TO HER MAN (the drake she did NOT tell about her secret cache of food!)
Cardinal friends

BRAVE BABY
Time to go!
I MISS THEM
Aren't they so cute?
Mr and Mrs Duckworth!!! She is not the mama. These two took off when our family went on vacation, sadly.

the first batch of ducklings who found our trove
They lived at The Pond my ducklings lived at, and would occasionally come by to snack. These are not the ducklings that came 2x a day for weeks.

Here are some of the friends in action!
For a huge dopamine hit, watch these ducklings drink water. Nothing cuter.
PEASSS!!! Never seen ducks move so fast! As soon as they see peas, they ditch mom and their orderly row!
Why, hello Leopold!
the babies swimming in clear brownie pan and drinking- best video ever
Yellow Crowned Night Heron (well, so says chatGPT ha) Video is not great, as I was filming from indoors, but LOOK! He stalks the crawdad hole like a cat! Even shaking his booty! Then straight up GULP. Audio on if you want to hear me narrate as I watched. lol
